Tiny Tweak

I have suffered minor injuries throughout this entire process. I have gotten forearm splints, hurt my knee, my wrist locked and wouldn't move, I've banged my hands, hit my head on weights, slipped and fell while running, and countless other bumps and bruises. Today, I suffered another minor "tweak", but I think it is the worst one to date.

I was deadlifting 235 pounds and was on my final set. I had completed three sets of eight reps each and was on the fourth set of eight. Everything was going great and I was lowering and lifting the weight with what seemed to be good form. However, on one of the final reps, I jerked upward to help me lift the weight, but that is a terrible thing to do when trying to lift 235 pounds. When I jerked upward, a tiny muscle in my neck "tweaked" and got strained. It may not seem like that big of a deal, but I found out today that I use the muscles in my neck for pretty much every exercise I do.

I finished my workout, but with every exercise, I could feel the strain. Everything suffered because of that tiny little "tweak" in my neck. With every lift and pull and push, I could feel it strain. Even tonight while I was driving, I had to push my head against the headrest to support my neck and minimize the strain. It was crazy to me that such a tiny little thing would make everything else suffer.

That tiny little "tweak" in my neck is still hurting me physically, and you may have something like that in your life too. But it doesn't have to be physical. Think about your spiritual life. There are things that we all see as perhaps non-important that can cause us great pain and suffering spiritually. At first, it may not seem like that big of a deal, but we can see the repercussions in many different aspects of our lives. I don't think I need to explain it further. You know what it is for you and you can see how it is affecting so many things. Fix it!

For my neck, I had to massage it, take medicine, and even go so far as to hook it up to an electronic TENS system. Some of it was painful and some of it was a bit of a nuisance, but it was all worth it because it all helped take care of the tweak.

Whatever it takes, fix your spiritual "tweak". Whatever you have to do, it's worth it.

"So if your eye—even your good eye—causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your hand—even your stronger hand—causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell." (Matthew 5:29-30 NLT)
