"That's a Girl Class"

This morning I took a Pilates class. For those of you who don't know, Pilates is a class that works all four parts of your abdominals. To be honest, I didn't even know there were four parts. But there are two obliques (the "side abs"), then there are the visible abs in the front and also abs that are underneath and not visible from the outside which protect your spine. Now, classes are not exactly where all the guys go in order to get their workout. They are mostly filled with women, and this class was no exception.

See, while all fitness classes are seen as a typically female activity, Pilates is one of the chief feminine classes. However, I can tell you it is anything but "girly". When you work out your abs for an hour, constantly contracting your core, you break a sweat. Most people think of crunches and sit ups and leg raises as the only thing to do to work your abs. After going to Pilates, I will never run out of ideas for exercises. It may seem "girly" on the outside, but I dare any guy to try it out and tell me it wasn't a great workout. When you just observe, you don't understand what it really takes to make it and how much benefit it's really giving you.

Christianity is the same way. You can observe other Christians and maybe think they're crazy. Or maybe you look at them and think, "What they're doing is fake/stupid/unnecessary." You just can't know from the outside. If you draw close to God - really draw close to Him and do whatever you can to be near Him, life will be the most amazing adventure. Watching someone else do it isn't enough, nor is it the best way to live. When you just observe, you don't understand how much benefit you would receive just from getting close to Him. So, do it. Draw close to God. When you do, you'll realize it's not fake/stupid/unnecessary, but an amazing thing that will change your life for the better.

Don't stand on the outside. Join in and see what's really waiting for you.

"Come close to God, and God will come close to you." (James 4:8 NLT)

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." (John 10:10 NIV)
