Shine Bright Like A Diamond

Today in the gym something very strange happened. I had begun my workout and was on the second or third exercise. There weren't many people in the gym - not to say it was empty, but it just wasn't crowded. Everyone was doing their own thing when all of a sudden, the lights went out. Now, in my gym, this isn't a huge deal because there are giant windows that let in light from the outside. It was early in the afternoon, so there was still light shining in from the windows, but for some reason everyone panicked.

People froze and completely quit exercising. They looked all around like deer in headlights (which is awkward because it was a lack of light, not an increase of light). Not everyone froze though. I kept going. Why? Because this was not the first time this had happened to me. It's not a frequent occurrence or anything, but when you're at the gym as much as I am, you get used to little weird things happening. While everyone else froze, I continued to workout. My music was fueling me and I just couldn't stop. But what was cool is that I felt everyone's eyes fix on me. Slowly, after they saw all was well and it was okay to continue, they began to pick up their weights again and continue their workouts.

People, we are in a dark, dark world. I'm not just talking about daylight savings time (when it gets dark at 4 in the afternoon now). What I'm trying to say is that this world has a lot of evil going on. It seems that everywhere I look, there is another act of violence or hate happening. That's not the way God intended for us to live. He didn't intend for the world to be such a dark, dark place. But there is hope!

Because of Jesus, we have hope now. Though the world may be dark, we can understand that though the world may be dark, light is possible. We are that light. When everyone is frozen, looking around and wondering what to do, we should be the examples. We should shine bright and let the whole world know that Jesus is the hope they're looking for. The world might be dark, but we don't have to submit to that darkness.

As Rihanna would say, "Shine bright like a diamond!"

"You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father." (Matthew 5:14-16 NLT)
